Case Study No. 1: ITC Litigation – Telecommunications

SUMMARY

A Fortune 500 company involved in a high-stakes patent dispute in front of the International Trade Commission needed assistance with a privilege review of technical documents.  

PROBLEM: Tight Deadline for Deliverables to the ITC with Insufficient Resources

Client needed to review more than 500,000 technical documents under tight deadlines mandated by the ITC. The client required a turnkey solution for review that included licensed attorneys, confidential war room space and full computer and IT support.

SOLUTION:  Identify Skilled Contractors, Project Managers and Set Up War Room

Exclusively Legal consulted with the client and outside counsel and determined San Diego and San Francisco would be the best markets to identify the needed talent. The Exclusively Legal recruiters tapped into its national database of professionals looking for contract attorney jobs and identified the required 50 attorneys with technical backgrounds requested. 

Exclusively Legal set up a secure war room space in San Francisco and San Diego with computers, including project e-mail accounts and ongoing IT support. Exclusively Legal also provided two senior-level project managers in each market. 

RESULTS

Project commenced within 72 hours of inception and law firm and corporate client successfully met ITC deadline through a dedicated review of more than 50 GB of data during a six-week period.

SUMMARY

An Am Law 100 law firm representing an original equipment manufacturer involved in patent litigation against 25 companies headquartered in China needed immediate review of high-volume Chinese documents.

PROBLEM: Specialized Attorneys Needed with Scheduling Flexibility

Project required United States-licensed attorneys fluent in Mandarin to review and prepare English summaries of all relevant documents in the collection. SUMMARY

An Am Law 100 law firm needed assistance with the technical analysis of approximately 1.5 million documents produced from more than 200 corporate defendants. 

PROBLEM: Review Team Needed is Highly Specialized and Matter is Complex

Extremely specialized and rare talent is required to review highly technical documents and engineering schematics. Potential conflicts in the matter are robust, which adds complexity to the legal staffing process and requires in-depth screening and keen attention to detail.

The Exclusively Legal staffing team utilized its national network of candidates to identify analysts and engineers in 10 separate markets with the specific expertise necessary to work on the two-year project.
